Gillian & Pedro - St Simons Church & House For An Art Lover

I originally met Gillian & Pedro at Pedro's best mans wedding that I photographed a few years ago. They had seen the photographs and album that I had produced for them and booked me straight away when they got engaged. It was quite a cold day on Saturday but Gillian & Pedro had organised a lovely reception at House for an Art Lover to keep their guests entertained with the sound of steel drums and lots of Caribbean Rum!

I have all the photographs uploaded to the website, if you would like the password to view them, please contact me.

Picture Of The Day - Friday

This is Ardverikie House that I visited for a wedding I shot two summers ago, you may recognise it as the home of the BBC's Monarch of Glen.
This is truly a spectacular venue that leads down to the banks of Loch Laggan and surrounded by wonderful scenery and has the largest inland beach in the country just along the road!. If you are planning a smaller wedding and looking for country house as a venue, I can highly recommend Ardverikie House.

Another favourite dancing picture. This is Emma letting her hair down with her girlfriends on the dance floor at Oran Mor in Glasgow. The picture was lit using 2 SB800 speedlights that I had set up in the balcony area above the dance floor that were triggered using an SU800 commander unit.

This picture recently won an international award with the Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA).

A nice moment this, a bridesmaid doing the finishing touches to all the bridesmaids dresses.

Picture Of The Day - Tuesday

Brian & Dyanne in the Cloisters area at Aberdeen University. I used a single SB800 off camera to the right to help push some daylight into the shadows on this wet and dark day.

Turnberry Hotel in the summer time, you just can't beat it. This is Holly & Chris taking some time out to watch the late afternoon sun head towards the horizon on their wedding day.

Picture Of The Day - Friday

This is another illustration of using off camera flash, very quick to set up with striking results. Ardanaiseig Hotel is the venue with Loch Awe in the background. Alison and Chris had their wedding in the hotel (which is lovely by the way) and then we wondered down to the waterfront for some portrait pictures. Using an Lastolite Ezybox to the left of camera on the jetty and a single SB800 I created this very moody dramatic picture. Prity cool I think.

Picture Of The Day - Thursday

I really love this picture. I had traveled up to Portmahomack to photograph Amy and Steve's wedding that they had in Amy's parents garden. This image is taken in the front living room, Amy's sister and husband were trying to get their kids ready for the day whilst Amy sipped Champagne nonchalantly amongst the chaos around her.

Picture Of The Day - Wednesday

This is a portrait of Teresa and Paul taken last year at Dalmeny Country House Hotel. It was early spring and the days were still quite short, so I had to pull out the flashguns to create some lighting as the day light had gone. I used an SB800 and a Lastolite Ezybox to create a soft light for this portrait picture. I had Paul's best man hold the light above and left of camera (synced using an SU800 commander unit) and fired away. The Ezybox controls the spread of light so we are only highlighting Teresa and Paul on the park bench. Prity cool.

St Andrews University Chapel.

I was in St Andrews last summer for the wedding of Claire and Richard, they had flown over from Brisbane Australia to get married at the University that Claire went to. A glorious day that ended with this lovely image of the Chapel as I was heading home.

Picture Of The Day - Monday

Dirleton Castle, East Lothian. I am originally from East Lothian but for the years I lived there I never visited Dirleton, even though I must have driven past it 1000's of times. It is such a beautiful little village, maybe one day I will be able to move back and live somewhere just as wonderful.
This is Kirstie and Richard's ceremony in the Castle, it was very breezy outside so they arranged the vaulted cellar for the ceremony, an excellent and unique venue.

A stroll along the beach in Ayrshire.

This is Daniella & Jonathan on the beach at Culzean Castle in Ayrshire. A fabulous setting with some wonderful late afternoon sun to help warm the photographs.

Picture Of The Day - Thursday

One of my favourite dancing pictures. I set up two SB800 speed lights above the curtains in the background hoping to achieve a nice backlight whist illuminating the seated guests, but I was very lucky to get this picture as they twirled right in the middle of the lights whilst facing me. Love it.

Nick.

Forgot to say this was Kara and Iain at Roman Camp Hotel last summer.

Picture Of The Day - Wednesday

This was Nicola and Jamie coming out of their service into the pouring rain in Kilmalcolm, a short car drive to Finlaystone House gave them shelter from the autumnal weather.

A great moment, this is Dyanne getting ready for her wedding at Kings College Chapel, Aberdeen.

It's an oldie but a goodie, this is still one of my favourite pictures. Samantha & Stuart at Kilcamb Lodge Hotel, a perfect setting on a perfect day.

Three More International Awards

Great news overnight, I was awarded three top twenty awards in the Wedding Photojournalists Association Q4 competition.

Eilean Donan Castle - 2nd in the Reception Ambiance category.

JUDGES COMMENTS: Beautiful scene that clearly captures the the glory of this amazing setting.

JUDGES COMMENTS: What a setting. This picture almost reminds you of a puzzle you’d put together -- a great rendition of a unique setting for a wedding reception.

JUDGES COMMENTS: Good thinking by the photographer to take this photograph from a distance to allow the structure and the landscape to speak for itself. The diffused, soft light helps to create a mood from another time.

Dancing at Oran Mor - 5th in the Off Camera Flash category

JUDGES COMMENTS: Nice lighting job. Even main light throughout the composition and nice accentuating side light. Well done.

1st Dance at Oran Mor - 17th in the Off Camera Flash category

The Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) is a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world. What sets their members apart in the industry is their candid, documentary approach – a distinctly artistic vision toward wedding photography.

Achnagairn House at dusk. This is one of my favourite venues to work in, it's a bit of a trek from Glasgow but it is very worth while trip.

St Andrews In The Square is a fantastic venue, lit up in lights in the evening makes for some wonderful pictures.
This was Sarah & Ali last year, I am photographing her sisters wedding at the same venue next month.

Picture Of The Day - Wednesday

This image was captured last summer at the wedding of Brenda and Dario.

A fantastic moment during the ceremony when they realised Brenda's wedding ring was tighter than expected.
