St. Andrew’s in the Square is the second oldest church in Glasgow, it dates back to 1756 and was formerly St. Andrew’s Parish Church, last used as such in 1993. The architect Alan Dreghorn modelled it on London’s St. Martins in the Field. It has since been sympathetically restored by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust and transformed into an exciting centre for performing arts in addition to providing an outstanding area in the main hall for any social event. St. Andrew’s in the Square upon completion of its restoration was reopened in the year 2000. Now in it’s 11th year the venue is an enormously popular wedding venue.
Not many venues can boast to holding the wedding of Rabbie Burns’ true love, Clarinda (Agnes McLehose), for whom he wrote Ae Fond Kiss or lay claim to the fact that Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Highland Army, on their return from invading England in 1745, camped within the semi-built walls of the Church!
This is a truly unique Scottish venue, serving locally sourced Scottish cuisine with a wonderful history. The stunning main hall is awash with natural light and the solid oak floors are perfect for dancing. The main hall can seat up to 200 guests for a meal but the overall hall capacity is 250 guests. St Andrews in the Square also holds a civil license for ceremonies of all types to be conducted in the main hall.
